UF Health – Family Medicine at Main

Project: UF Health – Family Medicine at Main
Location: Gainesville, Florida
Owner: UF Health
Construction Cost: $4.5 Million
Project Size: 25,593 SF
Completion: June 2012In 2008, the decision was made to close Alachua General Hospital, leaving residents of East Gainesville without a community hospital. Seeing the need, UF&Shands set out to identify a piece of property in East Gainesville where a new family medicine practice could be located. The site selected is on North Main Street, north of Northwest 16th Avenue.

The 2-story facility features offices and break-out spaces on the second floor, with exam and procedure rooms, and radiology on the first floor. At 25,593 square feet, the building is twice the size of the original downtown Shands family medicine facility, which was closed when the new Family Medicine at Main opened its doors on July 1, 2012. The building utilizes a variety of structural systems including Insulated Concrete Form (ICF), masonry, structural steel, and wood. The exterior is a mixture of stucco, composite panels and brick, and the building is conditioned utilizing Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) technology.
